Dispensary FAQs

How can I request my medication?

The easiest and most secure way is by using either the NHS app or Patient Access. You can also request medication by dropping either a repeat slip or a note with your name, date of birth and medication required into the green post box at the entrance to dispensary. We do not accept requests by phone.

I am having problems with my NHS app/ Patient Access, can you help?

Both systems are not controlled by the staff at Deddington, please consult the help section of the app to contact them directly.

How do I request something that it not on repeat?

For medication not on repeat you will need to complete a triage from on the Deddington Health Centre website.

Can my online pharmacy request for me?

We do not accept requests from online pharmacy’s, please use the NHS app or patient access.

Why do I only get 1 months worth of medication?

The practice policy is 28 day prescribing, this is in line with both NHS and BOB (Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West ICB. The only exception to this is for Oral contraceptives and Hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

What if I am going on holiday?

We can authorise an additional prescription(s) to cover a holiday, we are able to issue  up to three months worth of prescriptions for travel, if you will be away for longer than this you will need to access healthcare and medication at your destination. Our policy at Deddington Health centre is for a maximum of 2 lots of holiday issues for travel only in a 12 month rolling period.

What if I am moving abroad or living abroad for an extended period?

If you are moving abroad or living abroad for more than three months then you should access healthcare at your destination.

I am moving GP practice, can I have an extra supply?

To allow you time to move and register with your new practice we may be able to issue an additional 28 day prescription, please speak to a member of dispensary staff.

Why can you not dispense to me?

Under NHS rules we are only able to dispense to patients who live more than a mile (as the crow flies) from a retail pharmacy. We are also unable to dispense to patients living in Bodicote as this is not classified as a rural area due to its proximity to Banbury.

I have nominated an online pharmacy, can you dispense to me as a one-off?

If you choose to use an online pharmacy then once the prescription has been issued you will need to contact your online pharmacy and ask them to “release” the electronic prescription to the NHS spine, you will then need to visit a local retail pharmacy for them to download and dispense the prescription. We are not able to dispense these at the dispensary.

How long until my prescription is ready?

Once requested, please allow three clear working days (Monday-Friday excluding bank holidays) for your prescription to be dispensed. Prescriptions submitted after 3:30pm will be processed the following working day.

Can I use your collection machine?

Our team can set you up for you to collect from our automated Pharmaself machine if you prefer, just speak to a member of dispensary staff. The only exceptions to this are fridge items and controlled drugs.

Do you offer a delivery service?

We do offer a home delivery service for eligible patients, please speak to a member of the dispensary team for more information.

I have more than one item a month and pay for my prescriptions, can I save money?

Yes, you can purchase a pre-payment certificate either for all of your medication or just for HRT. Please visit the NHSBSA website for further details on how to purchase and the different types of pre-payment.

I need to speak to a member of the Pharmacy team, can I speak to them if I come to dispensary?

Unfortunately not, the pharmacy team work on an appointment only basis and are not based in dispensary. Please complete a triage form to request an appointment.
